Dominican Republic defeated Costa Rica in the quarterfinal round

WINNIPEG, Canada, June 5, 2008.- Dominican Republic gained their spot in the semi final defeating Costa Rica in three straight sets. Set scores were 25-21, 28-26, 25-15.

 

Dominican Republic came very close to losing the second set, as Costa Rica kept responding to their play. But Dominican Republic still earned their spot in the semi-final. They will play against United States tomorrow.

 

The star of the Dominican Republic lineup was Victor Bastista Lemos with 17 points. Costa Rican players Jose-Pablo Zumbado Mora and Jeffery Calderon Orozco respectively gained 13 and 12 points.

 

The coach of the Dominican Republic, Jacinto Campechano stated: “It was a hard match. Costa Rica is a sneaky team and very competitive. They kept playing with our block. But we are taller so we managed to get more points. We had some ups and downs but came out with a great victory at the end.”

 

Costa Rica coach Juan Acuna-Gamboa had to say: “We get better every game and learning a lot from our mistakes. We still have a good match to play tomorrow against Puerto Rico and we will be ready.”
